The Application of Stability Derivative Approach in Vehicle Handling Analysis

Abstract

 

A general technique for the linearisation of non-linear vehicle handling models has been introduced. This method, called stability derivative approach, is particularly useful when the non-linear behaviour of tyre in the form of algebraic equations are available. The general procedure of finding the stability derivatives is explained and as an example the equations of motion of a non-linear 4 degree-of-freedom model are linearised and the extent of variation of the stability derivatives are shown. The application of this method facilitates the analysis of vehicle handling qualities at entire non-linear operating regime by providing a set of linear equations of motion..
