Dynamic Scheduling Using Fuzzy Load Balancing

in Manufacturing Environment

Abstract

This paper presents a new adaptive scheduling policy for the dynamic manufacturing problems using a fuzzy logic algorithm. The proposed algorithm utilizes a fuzzy logic to balance the load, and minimize the idle time of the overall machines during the continuous variations of the status of the dynamic manufacturing system. The dynamic characteristics of the manufacturing system status are fed at given time to select part from different parts waiting to be processed for each machine. The power and the simplicity of the proposed fuzzy load-balancing algorithm is demonstrated for both static and dynamic manufacturing problems. The results indicate that the proposed fuzzy scheduler is effective and powerful to apply in the real manufacturing environment.
