CFD simulation of mechanically agitated vessel generated by modified pitched blade turbines

ABSTRACT In this work, the effect of type of the modified attack angle of the blade on the characteristic flow patterns in a stirred vessel is studied. More particularly, three different designs of axial flow impellers were used. 3D hydrodynamic model of a mixing vessel for modified pitched blade turbines operating in laminar and turbulent regime was presented in this paper. In this model, the Navier-Stokes equations and the classical turbulence model k-? were solved using a finite volume method. To verify our computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code, the hydrodynamic flow characteristics were compared with the results published in the literature.
